Annual review 2018/2019

As another season finishes we are already making plans for 2019/2020.
So it is time to rfelect. I will start with the junior section, although membership flourishes with some leaving the area and others leaving for uni we have room for even more members. Time to reflect on 2018/19. The Leicester Junior Development League produced the best ever results. We entered eight teams of varying ability and experience. Taking the results in division order.
Div. 1 A team. Our team was slightly weaker than last year, against formidable opposition we came runner up, with Dan Andrews joint top at 90%. This was a great result. Dan would have wished to complete the triple in his last year as a junior.
Div. 2 B team.Outright winners by a clear margin with Ben Cooke and Jack Godwin topping the percentages at 88%, followed by Ted Eastman at 86% . Congratulations , great team result.
Div. 4 C team. Runners up, consistant results. Louie Barjaris 75% ,Thomas Seeds 63% and Nathan Joseph the youngest at 50%. Well done yet another very good team result.
Div. 5 D team.Another very good result, runners up with Oliver Simms at 88%.
Div. 6 G team. Outstanding result, winners. The team went right through the season with brothers Kalan and Kai Bhaktta both undefeated from start to finish both winning 100%. An extraordinary performance..many congratulations.
Div. 7 E team. Another very young team who played well, greatly improved.
Div. 8 F team. Another good result, runners up beaten by a whisker. Khalid Uddin topping with 100%.
Sadly we say goodbye to
Div. 9 G team. Inexperienced team, however Fareed Uddin scored 71% in his first year.
The senior league results saw improvements over the previous season with two teams earning promotion to div. one and four. It is impossible not to hightlight team one spearheaded by Dan Andrews with Himansu, Dave Seeds and Mick Box all playing their parts. Dan's level of play is rising all the time, he stands alone in the club. Ian ,Ben and Ted worfked hard to leave div. five as runners up, this too was a great performance - well done. Elly and Kelsey latterly helped by Jack and Callum they will remain in div. four with an improved position. They were held back at times with a shortage of players. Great to have Jack Kermode back, such has been his rapid progress its hard to believe he was away for four years. Welcome back Jack, look out div. three next season.
Another highlight has been our increased presence in junior county representation. Dan, Sufyanna, Callum all played matches. In addition Kelsey had experience with the ladies second team. Kelsey also leads De Monfort Uni ladies. Another success story has been Shannon Graves who played well above her game to come runner up in the AOC National Championships. Well done Wizards.
It has also been a busy time for fundraising - we always have a shopping list!! Aviva launched a nationwide campaign, in this area greatly assisted by BHIB Insurance Brokers. We were awarded £600 which enabled us to puchase two new tables to add to our stock. We were also helped here by Beth Colbert of Blaby District Council who introduced us to this great opportunity. Many thanks, great team work.
Once again many thanks to Braunstone Town Council who provided £300 to help us through the Summer period and into the next season.Tina Robinson of The Leics. and Rutland Community Foundation worked hard for us to secure a grant of £800 which will cover our league registration feesand allow us to purchase a further supply of table barriers. We are very grateful.
Finally a mention to The Winstanley School the adopted home of the Wizards. Their continued support is invaluable. Because of major alterations our present match venue hall is no longer available. They have gone to great lengths to rehouse us in their main hall in addition to the sports hall. Sincere thanks to the School Principal, David Bennett and Ian Joyce who sits on our committee.
Well I could go on, but enough is enough, thanks to all who support us not least of all to all the parents who provide a second to none "taxi service" for our juniors.
Best Wishes to you all,
On behalf of our Committee and myself,
